Henry, don’t pick your nose! offers a unique cross-curricular learning opportunity that combines literacy development with creative arts education. It is an innovative approach to integrated learning. The newly published children’s book is a didactic tool that engages students in grades K-4 in an interactive reading experience that blends the fun of narrative storytelling with drawing activities designed to enhance comprehension, fine motor skills, and creative expression.
The book allows for multiple sources of language development. Children naturally remember rhythmic, repetitive text more than prose. It also provides opportunities for language play in the style of authors like Eric Carle and Dr. Suess, while maintaining the high entertainment value children crave most, similar to books like Captain Underpants.
As a former paraprofessional and current TESOL graduate student, the author has direct experience observing students interact with books and learn language. She believes the best children’s books integrate entertainment and educational value. Henry, don’t pick your nose! was specially designed with that in mind and took 15 years to come to fruition.
